The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIPPA) enables the public to request and obtain copies of records held by B.C. government ministries or the Office of the Premier, when those records are not routinely available.
Start with an informal request. Don’t be afraid to pick up the phone and call the ministry that you believe holds the records you want.
If you are unable to get copies of records through the informal route, you can make a formal request through FOIPPA. That request must be in writing. Once you have decided on the records you need, try to limit your request to those records. Consider carefully how to clearly and concisely describe in writing the records you are seeking.

If you have questions about submitting an FOI request to a specific ministry, which the ministry was unable to answer, you may wish to contact the Manager, Information Access who provides FOI services for that ministry.
